This fabric is made using the centuries-old Japanese process of hand-dyeing yarn in natural indigo. This traditional method of yarn dyeing is called hank-dyeing because the yarn is bundled into "hanks" which are then dipped by hand into vats of natural indigo dye. Because the hank is dyed by hand and hung to dry in small batches, the dye oxidizes all over the yarn at different rates, creating this beautiful indigo speckled appearance. These techniques are passed down from generation to generation to the master craftsmen who today still perform these rare dyeing methods.
This Naked & Famous Denim
shirt is made in the oldest existing shirt factory in North America, which was founded in Quebec, in 1894. For over a century, the factory has been producing fine mens shirts. The tradition of old-world craftsmanship and a passion for shirting continues to this day.
